Kids can have many distractions, not that adults can’t have. As they are at a learning and formative stage, it is important for them to learn to focus, organize, be responsible, and responsive, start gathering facts and develop analytical mind. A hyperactive brain might not be just attentive to the classroom learning, but to everything else – might gulp food, dress up shabbily. The brain might not register to respond to greetings or anything related to any emotion. An extreme form of such cases are called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Meditation is good way to deal with hyper kids, take away negative emotions and make them mature. It is useful for other kids as well. It has a calming affect on the child’s mind. Disciplining and transfer of knowledge would be easier.
- Make them sit quietly/ close eyes for 10 minutes
This can be the initial process which can help them graduate into a longer process of meditation. This will teach them to be patient. So begin by asking kids to keep quiet at one place for at least 10 minutes in a day.
Another activity is to make them close their eyes and sit in a place of their choice for 10 minutes. Once they are done, make sure to ask them their experiences, images and colors that they saw and they would certainly be excited.
- Narrate a story to help them in visualizing
Make them close their eyes and narrate a story to them and ask them what they saw once after you are done with the story narration. As you do this, you would be helping them to visualize and focus on one thing.
- Take them out on a small hike
The nature is the best healer and it can inspire even the smallest of small children. By taking your children out on small hikes and nature walks you are stimulating their extrasensory organs and they would learn to stay calm and quiet.
- Discover the power of chanting
As you chant some hymns, get your kid along with you to sit down and help them chant as well and by making this as a routine you would be able to see a lot of positive changes in your kids.
- Introduce them to music and painting
Colors and music can be extremely transcendental. Introducing your children to these artistic forms can be a great way of helping them understand about meditation.
- Be their Leader
Yes, start mediation and some basic breathing techniques with your kids. Practice what you are teaching. Kids like to imitate their loved ones and when they sit to meditate and engage in some basic yoga, they will pick it up faster. Basic breathing techniques soothes the body and draws in positive energy.
